Sackville, New Brunswick’s celebration of wearing your heart on your collective sleeve in an audible format have announced their second wave of acts today. The festival’s 13th iteration of a retroactive soundtrack for your misspent youth includes plenty of returning festival favourites as well as a special treat. This year, the festival will be hosting the return of Halifax’s Dog Day after the band spent five years in hibernation.
Subject of many industry quiet but excited murmurings, the recent activity of Dog Day has created something of a stir. In their current manifestation, the band is being helmed by Nancy Urich (Not You) and Seth Smith (The Crescent), the return of the band’s original drummer KC Spidle (Bad Vibrations, Husband & Knife) and the addition of Meg Yoshida (Not You, Bad Vibrations) on synth. Their appearance at SappyFest also marks Dog Day’s first live performance since the release of their acclaimed album, Fade Out.
Along with that exciting news, the festival has also announced the return performance of Halifax’s reincarnation of Lou Reed’s drinking diary in the form of Nap Eyes, along with Darlene Shrugg, Ice Cream, Ansley Simpson, Cris Derksen, Nick Ferrio, Boyhood, Quaker Parents and Fredericton’s loud and quirky circus rockers Motherhood.
These acts are joining those previously announced: U.S. Girls, Bonjay, Sappy veterans Julie & The Wrong Guys, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, Fredericton’s sensational Wolastoq language-singing operatic tenor Jeremy Dutcher, Jennifer Castle, Special Costello, loquaciously lyrical The Burning Hell, WHOOP-Szo, Witch Prophet, possible genius mostly likely to found performing bar tunes in the washroom BA Johnston, and Emma Healey.
